274 Harbour Drive, Coffs Harbour

Binet constructions was engaged by the owners of the building to repair the main structural columns that support the building which were failing due to the presence of extreme concrete spalling within the structure. These structural columns were located on the ground level of the multi-story building, meaning that they supported everything above, this presented some extremely complex issues regarding the major for error.

Binet Constructions were engaged to complete the initial investigation works, working closely with a local structural engineer who has extensive experience and skill in this repair scenario. Once the original investigation and design works were complete, Binet Constructions was successful in tendering for the repair works.

The project had several extremely challenging items to undertake including:

  • Excavating in extremely tight areas
  • Propping of the multi-story building above to allow us to work safely on the structural supports
  • Treating the concrete cancer in unstable concrete columns
  • Wrapping the concrete columns in carbon fibre to ensure there is no future moisture penetration and no ability for the columns to fail
  • Forming and pouring new concrete columns as per the engineers design attached to the existing repaired columns
  • Patching the damaged driveway, rendering and painting of all repaired areas
  • Finalise and reopen the car park.
